Day 09 @ Seoul – Myeongdong

After almost 3 hours of exploring Ewha Street and Sinchon, we were ready to move on. We still had a good portion of the afternoon left though at 2PM, so we decided to head to Myeongdong – Seoul’s very famous shopping if very touristy district, and an area we’d initially planned to visit on Day 15. It was just as well that we did, since our day trip to Alpaca World/Nami Island/Garden of Morning Calm was going to pick us up from Myeongdong station, so we figured we should recce the pick-up point as well. Myeongdong was about 15 minutes from Sinchon Station and we had to change subway lines, but we got there at 2:15PM, and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the many streets and soaking in the Sunday atmosphere.

Toegye-ro. There are a number of hotels that line the road, and many tourists were dragging their large luggage cases finding their hotels.
Taking a look at the more than 100 year old Myeongdong Cathedral.
There were church activities going on this mid-Sunday afternoon in the courtyard.
Sunday mass was over, so visitors were able to enter the sanctuary.
Myeong-dong street was really busy. You could easily spend a day exploring the huge number of shops and snack stalls.
Vehicular traffic do still move along the crowded streets, so watch your step.
As with many other countries, touristy districts, souvenirs and items you find in one shop would likely be found in another.

We’d been up since 4AM this morning, so it’d been a really long day. We caught dinner in Myeongdong, then headed back to Seoul Station to check into our Airbnb apartment. We’d be visiting the Alpaca World, Nami Island, and the Garden of Morning Calm tomorrow on a day trip. So, to be continued!
