Day 04 @ Busan – Skyline Luge Busan

Skyline Luge was invted 23 years in New Zealand, and since that time has proven to be a very popular family and group activity. We’ve tried the experience at Sentosa during our family staycation during the Covid years, and have been looking forward to returning to give it another try, but this time in Busan. Two rides at the Skyline Luge Busan are included in our Busan Visitor Pass. The park was some distance away from where we were staying, so it was a 25 minute taxi ride to the place. The park sits beside Lotte Adventure World, and screams of exhilaration (or terror) could be heard from that amusement park next door.

Do note though: the park’s operating hours start at 10AM. You register yourself in, the short list of rules get explained to you, you pick up a suitably sized helmet – there are five sizes to choose from, and all of us found our right sizes – then it’s a 3 minute car lift ride up to the top. Like the Sentosa experience, riders are divided into different queues: first timer, or experienced riders. We went with the refresher briefing first, where the ride guides made sure we fully understood how to operate the steering bars, and got us to practice a little before we were set off.

There was also a large group of what seemed like high school students at the park on an excursion – and we’re talking hundreds of students here. Fortunately, we were among the first members of the public to begin, so we completed our first ride without having to wait. The large group was well underway before we began the second, but the ride guides were able to speedily dispatch the student groups, and we waited just minutes for our turn on the second ride.

The Busan Visitor Pass includes two rides on the Luge. You can also see the huge student crowd in the background: and this was right at opening hour.
Taking the chair lift up to the starting point.
We didn’t take pictures during the rides: the few that we did take was at the end point, like this of the missus here.
The Luge is a fun filled family activity!

One of the four circuits.
Fast turnaround, so don’t be too afraid of crowds.

Pro-tip: there are four tracks, and if you’re intent on selecting and going down your preferred track, you’d need to pay particular attention to your launch point from where you start riding your car down, and also which turns to make. Secondly, the two rides included in the Busan Visitor Pass are sufficient for you to get a good feel of the rides. While additional rides will always be enjoyable, I reckon two is enough for most people to get a good feel.

Lastly, you won’t be able to hand operate a mobile phone or camera while driving your car down: the steering bar requires both hands for you to safely operate and steer. There are cameras at vantage spots on the circuit though. So, like the Sentosa circuit, you can opt to buy at the base station the videos or pictures taken by these cameras. We picked up one video of Peter on his ride for 10,000 KRW: not that pricey, but I was a little disappointed to see that the video was in 720p quality only. Oh well.

We completed the Luge experience in about 40 minutes, then made our way back to the Haeundae area for our next activity. Continued in the next post!
