Ling has been mostly cooped up at home taking care of our six-week old Peter, so this long holiday weekend we’ve been heading out of home in the mid-mornings whenever we can. Unlike four years ago when we were bringing Hannah out at the same age, things – especially logistics – are quite different now, what with two children in tow. The arrangement’s the same when we’re outdoors as what we’ve settled into at home now too; Ling takes care of Peter, and myself, Hannah, but excepting toilet duties when I still need Ling’s help for LOL.
Over the last couple of days too, we’ve noticed that Hannah is increasingly assertive at home. On two occasions now, she’s ‘talked back’ or demonstrated impatience when we take her to task over the usual mild misbehavior at home. And just this morning, she went into a bit of revenge-mode when we denied her longer play time as we were just about to head out for brunch. She will still show remorse and regret when we take her to task for these behavior, but we wonder how long it’ll be before we finally get into staring-down contests.
Oh well. It had to come. After all, we had it real easy for the first four years!
Pictures from this morning’s brunch at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Greenwich Village. She’s adept at making faces.
And this was with her usual Hot Chocolate. Can’t imagine what would she be like if she had coffee.=)
I seem to recall you possessing within your impressive repertoire a genuinely intense stare, buddy. I have always assumed this was cultivated during your debating days, probably to signify a nonplussed reaction to your opponents’ arguments. Your challenge now: Can you successfully furnish the facial expression when required . . . and keep a straight face? :)
Haha! Definitely, bud. In fact, I’ve had to use that withering glare at Hannah on a few occasions now. Not much effect though – she just stares blankly back at me.=(
