Hannah with the E-M5 – Part 2

There’s an adage one commonly finds on photo-enthusiast discussion forums, and it goes like this: the best camera you can have is the one that’s with you. That’s one of the reasons why the iPhone 4 has turned out to be quite the big hit; since you carry the smartphone everywhere you go. While my D7000 still performs significantly better in AF and handling and also offers (slightly) better image quality, shooting with the E-M5 is just a lot more fun! Not to mention too that it’s also lighter, and I find myself carrying the camera around whenever we’re out of home with Hannah.

A selection of pictures from the weekend again, and taken using the 12-50mm and 20mm f1.7.=)

Some of Hannah’s most, er, expressive moments are when she’s in the toilet.=)

With her stuffed sheep. Until recently, it was stashed away for a few months in her big tub of toys.

Another friend remarked again how much she looks like me, the daddy. And I still can’t see the resemblance!

  1. Ling, how did you help Hannah to get used to the potty? Please share if you can :) Gabrielle is growing too old for diapers but is resisting the potty!

  2. Heya Lisa; Ling’s on a short trip out of the country; I’ll let her know you asked. In the mean time, here’s our experiences that worked for Hannah.=)

This was last year in December. I don’t think she stayed on the Potty long; perhaps just a few months before we moved her onto the toilet seat. In fact, if I recall, by the time we went for our December Staycation, she was already getting introduced to toilet seats.

  3. Thanks Chek Yang! Wow so it’s just Daddy and Hannah these few days? Hope you’re having a fun time of bonding! :)

  4. Hi Lisa,

I was away for a day trip to Johore with my school. It was part of staff retreat.

Back to your query. For Hannah, it wasn’t so much as getting used to the potty as recognising that she HAD TO use it. I didn’t allow her to wear diaper, just her panty all day. I found that rewarding the use of potty with stickers work for Hannah. She did wet herself occasionally but it wasn’t a pleasant experience and she got the idea that wetting was not desirable soon enough.

I chose to train her during my school holidays as we could stay at home all day to practice. Initially, I brought her to the potty every hour to ensure she won’t wet herself. The frequency was lowered to every 2 hours subsequently. Later on, I brought her to the potty only when it was about 2 hours after she had lots of fluid. Now, she is able to tell me when the urge comes.

As for passing motion, I decided to create a nightly routine for her out of convenience. She would sit on the toilet bowl for 5-10 mins to wait for the poo poo to come out. That way, I would know how often she pass motion.

Hannah made to transition from potty to toilet bowl within a month out of necessity as her pre-nursery uses toilet bowl. I got her a toilet seat for tots so as to provide better support. She’s still using it. :)

  5. One more thing. Hannah is still using diaper for her nighttime sleep. She wets her diaper occasionally during the night.

  6. Thanks Ling! This is very helpful. I had planned to train Gabrielle during maternity leave but was not consistent enough. Righto- tomorrow I shall put her on the commode every hour! Hee hee!
