I’m really tempted to say that the presence of vicious mosquitos is a challenge unique to our part of the world. But then I think about those bull flies I had to swat every summer in Perth, I’m left undecided which of these two insect families I’d rather live with if I had no choice!
Our poor girl though has been getting the worse of it. We blogged about our thought processes in January this year about trying to protect Hannah from mosquitos, and we’ve had some success by returning to draping her cot with a mosquito net. That brought about another challenge by the way – Hannah refused to sleep with the mosquito net on, and it took both of our efforts to get her readjusted to sleeping with it.
The net has been pretty effective in keeping mosquitos out when she sleeps at night. But it can’t stop those critters from biting Hannah when she’s not sleeping. That’s about what happened over the weekend; Hannah has one bite near each of her eyes. You might not be able to tell clearly from the picture here because of lighting, but she looks a little hideous.
Thankfully, our dear girl is still her normal cheerful self, apart from her occasional rubbing her little hands near her eyes. The antibacterial ointment we’ve applied on both spots seem to be effective in reducing the swelling. More to report soon.
poor little Hannah. I got a shock when I saw her this morning before leaving for work!
Oh my! Is the excessive blotchiness due to her rubbing the area around the bite? If not, it would seem her reaction to the bites is more severe than normal. Poor girl!
Oh dear, my cute god-daughter is suffering… :(
Doc said that Hannah’s immune system was more reactive to mosquito bites. She tends to get big swellings from the bites. The above photo shows the intermediate stage. We saw the advanced stage yesterday morning – she could hardly open her right eye then. Thank God that the swelling was reduced by last night.
