Oishi!! – Part 1

Before one gets the wrong idea: despite all the pictures of glorious and very delicious food that I try every day here, I’m really in the city for work. Professional protocol and courtesy discourages me to comment too much about my guest lecturing here: but suffice it to say that teaching a technological and content heavy subject in an institution where English isn’t spoken as a main language is not easy.

But as one of the college’s staff joked as I left after my first day of lecturing today, I can look forward to another Japanese dinner on my return back to the hotel!

Oh yes: before dinner started this time, the chef who would be preparing my dinner came to my table, bowed, introduced himself and gave me his name card.:)

Then it’s off with the appetizer:

Then baked fish that was lightly salted and topped with some sort of soft nuts:

And then the main course: perfectly deep fried and large piece of Tonkatsu, which I would have surely got stuffed with…

… but barely a half a minute later, the Kimonoed waitress returned with more dishes that make up the main course for dinner!

The bowl on the right is a rice bowl with sashimi and a number of other condiments and sushi items. The soup on left isn’t miso soup, but it tastes faintly like szechuan soup.

And dinner closed off with dessert again: and the same waitress as yesterday realized she didn’t need to try to make me understand ‘desserto’. She knew I’d eat anything that’s placed on my table! :)

Oh yes: MacBook Pro for me to work on the next day’s lecture slides while waiting in between dishes.

And finally, when I was accompanied to the lift lobby again with the waitress chatting with me in Japanese again, I ventured

“Dinner was very delicious… ‘Oishi’!”

… and she beamed and giggled.:)

  1. oh, try something different such as “tanoshikatta” (it was enjoyable) the next time she sees you to the lift… hehehe…

  2. Wow, Dr Foo, your dinner looks very shiok, especially the sashimi, which I love to eat, but I still prefer to eat Japanese curry rice, which is my fav Japan food.

  3. Dear, you must eat the fruits even if you don’t fancy them okay. They are really sweet and heavenly. :)

  4. Yes dear. There aren’t any fruits for dinner though. There’s fruits for breakfasts, but each morning so far have been crazily rushed in order to get to work on time.:(
