Alice-in-Action 2009

The Alice-in-Action (AIA) 2009 competition is organized by my department, and runs every year in August. The competition sees Secondary Schools sending teams who’ll work on 3D animation projects using the Alice 3D programming environment and the teams who make it to the finals present and showcase their work in a live audience, and also compete in three quiz rounds.

My role in the last couple of competitions have been as Chief Judge, and I’m the guy who alongside my two judges look through all the animation submissions, decide on the finalists, cook up the questions for the three quiz rounds, conduct the quiz event, give a speech before passing the Letter of Winners to the Master of Ceremonies to announce, and then potentially get harassed by school teachers why their teams didn’t win.

It’s a fun tournament though, and this year’s was remarked as the best ever with great and spontaneous support from the hundreds of school supporters at the auditorium. The teams comprised from the quite across the range: they came from neighbor schools to those more well-known schools like Raffles Institution and Hwa Chong. The winner this year was from Nan Hwa High with Raffles Institution coming in a close second.

And no, I didn’t get harassed by teachers this year (I was last year LOL).
