Getting packed

Funnily, I don’t usually have difficulties deciding what to pack for trips out of the country. I have a handy spreadsheet that lists the standard items that go into luggage and/or hand-carry.

Thereafter, the only thing that needs to get changed for each trip I get prepared for is the number of days I’m staying – which is used as a multiplying factor for the clothing items I need – and also a toggle for the type of season and weather I’m getting into, i.e. cold or tropical. The items in my spreadsheet get listed also for approximate weight, and I’ll know how much baggage allowance I still have.

Funnily, the one and only hard thing I have when it comes to packing for a trip – in this case the San Francisco trip departing tomorrow – is what electronic equipment to bring! This time round though, here’s what’s going into the bag:

D300 + MB-D10 grip + SB600 flash

Nikon 18-55 mm +  Nikon 55 – 200mm + Sigma 10-20mm lenses

Panasonic HDC-SD20 digicamcorder

Polarizer filters

Manfrotto monopod

MSI Wind

It’s the usual suspects with a few changes: the Panasonic HD digicam is coming along on its ‘maiden’ trip, and my larger NEC notebook is staying at home with the more portable MSI Wind netbook doing the onsite blogging honors this time – assuming if I get Wi-Fi access somewhere. Likewise, the Manfrotto CF tripod that accompanied me on the Bali trip is replaced by the lighter monopod (no Tripod Girl LOL).

Still, there isn’t a lot of sight-seeing unfortunately – the 8 day trip is crammed from front to back with the conference itself, business meetings, and networking nights. But hey; who knows.:)
