Whenever the new season of Grey’s Anatomy gets released on DVD and I rent them, Ling gets absolutely hooked. In fact, she’ll ban me from watching any episodes without her.
Now this really isn’t a big thing, because the successful TV series has lost its appeal for me after season 2 (the series is in season 5 now). I mean, initially it was pretty good watching. But some of the threads just got rehashed too many times over, e.g. dysfunctional families in the background. And every other subplot involves one of the characters sleeping with some other character.
Somehow though Ling finds it all interesting to watch, but for the last two seasons now I’ve ended up either falling asleep on the TV couch, or just heading to the study to watch dust fall and gather on the table – which is really more interesting than watching Meredith Grey whine yet again about Derek ‘Mcdreamy’ Shepherd.
Now, the one hospital drama I enjoy is Scrubs. I got onto the series late, and only from interest based on what folks online were raving about. There’s slapstick humor, voice overs, and best of all, crazily hilarious characters, especially the always terrorizing Janitor, played incredibly by actor Neil Flynn.
Unfortunately, the series isn’t really available for rental in Singapore, but there’re online stores selling them for at bargain bin prices of around SGD20 per season. Incredible value. So, once we’re done watching Star Trek: Voyager, this is gonna be the next nightly series we’ll watch.:)
