I finally got down to cooking laksa (nonya version) with the premix bought a couple of months ago. I had intended to do it while Matt was here but we were too busy eating other types of good food! Hee hee. :D
I guess I bought the most expensive (~S$5++) premix available here. The brand is Prima Taste. The whole cooking process was extremely easy and quick (as compared to the 50 minutes spent on making congee). The premix came with laksa paste, dried grated coconut, sambal chilli and dried laksa leaf flakes. All I had to supplement were the laksa bee hoon (thick rice noodles), beancurd puffs, dao gei (bean sprouts), prawns and sliced fish cakes (Yang loves them). All of these items were bought from our nearby NTUC supermarket. You simply follow the cooking instructions given on the box and voila, your laksa is ready to be served.
After tasting it, Yang liked it and asked if it was anything close to the famous Katong laksa (well, he still haven’t tried it). I’d say it is a good imitation but falls short of that full and rich texture of Katong laksa gravy. If you’re overseas for the long haul and crave laksa, I dare say this premix will give you a taste of home.
Yup, that’s what we’re having over here in Brissie for a taste of home. It goes for 3 for AUD5 over here, so we buy them by the stack! :)
Wow Lisa; it’s been a while.:) I hope all’s well with you still in Roo-land.:)
wow, maybe i should try it! chris LOVES katong laksa… and they cut the bee hoon short short and serve it w a spoon so you can’t avoid DRINKING the gravy. absolutely sinful but scrumptious! haha…
Hi lis, hello mate! how’r u doin’? haha
Heya yup, we have slightly less than 2 months left with the roos… trying to get into finishing our theses so that we can go home in peace! :p You guys sound like you’re doing great… really glad that you all are having a great time fellowshipping in the North!
