OSIM iEcologi – my review (* * *)

image Well, here’s my preliminary evaluation of OSIM’s steam vacuum cleaner, iEcologi.

I had 2 objectives in mind when we bought this machine: 1) To continue sharing the load of cleaning the floors with Yang during my pregnancy (as I had trouble doing my usual Japanese style on all fours), 2) to provide a cleaner environment for the baby when she arrives (steam function of the machine)

Plus points:

  1. It uses less water
  2. Can suck up dustmites from sofa and mattresses
  3. Can steam and clean windows
  4. Steam function kills germs
  5. Floor felt clean for up to a week
  6. Dry suction is good

Minus points:

  1. Takes up too much time for the boiler to prepare steam (about 20 mins)
  2. Steam tube gets too hot to touch during steaming
  3. More time required for steaming and suctioning of floors as compared to my sweep and mop style
  4. The cleaning brush cannot reach underneath low tables and couch or maneuver tight corners (have to move furniture in order to do cleaning)
  5. Have to buy additional joker brush to vacuum parquet floors – no steaming function for joker brush. I really prefer to clean all floors with water rather than a dry suction. The joker brush doesn’t come with a hook for attaching to the machine when not in use.
  6. Dripping of dirty water back onto the floor when suction power is switched off.
  7. Palm gets small blisters after using iEcologi.

Contrary to the pretty model in high heels posing at ease with iEcologi, I felt totally the opposite: sweaty and exhausted.

I wonder whether there’s a better machine out there that really cuts down on time spent cleaning the floors. I’m giving it a *** three upon five star rating.

  1. haha… we don’t have parquet so we never asked… didn’t realise it doesn’t do parquet unless u attach something.

  2. hi, i wonder if you have seen this

    http://www.karcher.co.uk/product.php?pr=66&vw=dt

i’m too sick and tired of moping the floor “japanese style”.. stumbled onto your blog to read about reviews. nice blog, great pics.

anyway, the salesman didn’t inform me that i have to buy the joker brush for parquet flooring is it really necessary? all he said was not to turn the heat to max. in need of advice. thanks. perhaps yang can help me (from a man’s point of view :)…)

  3. Hi Ben,

    Thanks for your compliments. :)

About the joker brush, i found out it wasn’t a necessary purchase as it didn’t turn out that great. It collects dust on its cushioned pads. The universal brush works just fine on parquet floors.

We did consider the Karcher’s steam and vacuum cleaner. However, due to its lack of customer’s reviews and display models here in Singapore, we went for the iEcologi instead. If you’re getting Karcher’s, we’d love to hear your review on it.

  4. my sales guy said wood flooring just turn heat to max (away from wood sutface then down to about 2 to steam wood neh… so when i steam my bed platform (which is wood) i do that. i just use the universal one. the joker didn’t mention any joker brush… but my wooden platform is not parquet material la… so maybe it’s different?

  5. Does it clean mattresses or carpets well? I’ve been having problems with my cat urinating all over the place. Hahaha. If not, I had better get a carpet cleaner liao!

    Thanks!

  6. Hi Jabroni,

It can clean mattress. I’m not sure about carpet though :)
